Curriculum Vitae
Mustafa Nasar joined the Near and Middle Eastern Studies Program as a Research Associate on 1st August 2021.
He studied Islamic and Religious Studies at the University of Basel where he also obtained his master's degree in Near and Middle Eastern Studies and Political Science.
From 2019-2020 he worked as an Academic Intern at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Bern and Islamabad.
Abstract PhD Project
Representations of the Ottoman Empire in Arab Gulf Historiography
The PhD project focuses on the Arab Gulf states' historiography on the Ottoman Empire. State-produced textbooks which are taught in history classes are at the core of the dissertation. The texts are analyzed with regard to their historical narratives in order to answer the question of how the Gulf monarchies interpret the late Ottoman Empire in the Arabian Peninsula.
