Sevinç Yasargil is a project assistant in the research project Futures Interrupted: Social Pluralism and Political Projects Beyond Coloniality and the Nation-State, directed by Prof. Dr. Falestin Naïli. She received her PhD at the University of Bern under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Anke von Kügelgen, with a dissertation on the existential and cultural philosophy of ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān Badawī.

In her new project Conceptual Transformation and Societal Debates: Alternative Visions of Futures in Arabic Cultural Magazines (1950–1970), she investigates the renegotiation of social and

political concepts in Marxist and socialist-oriented cultural journals of the 1950s and 1960s, focusing on the intellectualcenters of Cairo and Beirut. The project highlights concepts such as freedom, independence, culture, and society, whichwere debated, reinterpreted, and imbued with new meanings during this period. These negotiations are read, in line withthe theoretical framework of Futures Interrupted, as articulations of possible visions of the future. The project aims touncover these discursive dynamics by combining digital methods with hermeneutic analysis, showing how localintellectuals envisioned alternative forms of society.
